What is the best internet provider in San Antonio?

San Antonians are lucky to live in a city with excellent infrastructure. Don’t be fooled by the leisurely cafe scene along the River Walk or the historic cobblestone streets of La Villita. San Antonio is scenic—and it has soul—but that doesn’t mean we don’t like our internet served fast and fiery.

Most San Antonians have access to superfast internet speeds from AT&T and Spectrum. Fiber internet and fixed wireless are also available.

The best internet service for San Antonio residents is an internet plan that gives you enough speed without charging you for extra bandwidth you don’t need. For some families, a download speed of 25 Mbps is ample, while others need 400 Mbps or more to keep everyone peacefully streaming and gaming through the long, hot summer. Use our How Much Speed Do I Need? Tool to get a recommended speed package for your home.

Forbes ranked San Antonio fifth in the nation for fastest internet speed. The fastest internet in San Antonio comes from fiber providers, although cable internet is also a great option.

Those living closer to the city center are more likely to have fiber internet options with gigabit plans (with download speeds up to 1,000 Mbps). San Antonio’s north, northwest, and central downtown areas have access to fiber internet service from Google Fiber, AT&T, and Guadalupe Valley Telephone Cooperative. These three companies offer the fastest internet in San Antonio.

San Antonio residential internet coverage

AT&T offers DSL and fiber internet service in the San Antonio metro area, from the downtown area and all the way out to Cibolo, Helotes, and South San Antonio. AT&T has a few no coverage areas in newly developed parts of Brooks City Base and near the Lackland Air Force Base, but most of San Antonio residents can get AT&T Internet.

Spectrum offers high-speed cable internet throughout San Antonio and the surrounding suburbs. Google Fiber offers fiber internet service in the West and Northeast San Antonio areas, including the areas of Westover Hills, Wilshire Terrace, and East Terrell Hills.

Residents living in downtown, north, or northeast San Antonio can also get affordable cable internet from Grande Communications, including areas like Alamo Heights, Oak Meadows, Redland Estates, Whispering Oaks, and El Dorado.

There are also reliable broadband DSL and fixed-wireless internet services in San Antonio, although they have limited coverage. These providers—like Alamo Broadband Inc, Ranch Wireless, Rock Solid Internet, Ziplink, and Bee Creek Communications—offer slower than average speeds, but they tend to offer better customer service and competitive pricing.
