was promised a bump up to 25 last year to renew. short story. I did. they did not. they renewed me at my old speed. They conveniently lost all records of calls promising such. Now all phone calls are met with rudeness and defensiveness. How do they sleep at night? Lawsuit if I could.

I signed up for Century Link service on a promotional deal with Internet and phone bundle around $39.99 a month. I had service for 30-40 days when I receive my first bill. The first bill was $148.36 for one month of service. I called customer service to cancel service because it was so high and it was not under the $39.99 month plan like I originally signed up under. They told me that if I stayed with them they would put me back to the promotional deal I signed up for and credit me the difference. I told them I wanted to cancel anyways. They then told me I had to pay the full amount. I told them I could pay that amount in a 3 month installment and we set up a payment plan. They sent me the payment plan agreement. I paid the remainder $148.36 as agreed in 3 installments of $50.00. I thought this was all taken care of back in December 2014 until last week I checked my credit report stating that I owed $49.00 to century link. I just called them to explain the situation and told them I have all my 3 checks from my bank thinking that one may have been missed. They told me that I still owed another additional $49.00 in addition to the $150.00 I had already sent them. The operator I spoke with wasn’t explain anything except that I made the 3 payments and I still owed them $49 dollars. So I told him I wanted to make everything right and I paid the remaining balance owed so that I could get my credit cleared up. I am not happy with what happened. I know they want to make money but signing me up for a higher priced package was not right then not letting me know I owed them any further moneys to get this matter taken care of. The final bill I received was for $148.36 and the guy I just spoke to said it was for $196.35. I don’t know how a promotional deal can turn up to be so high and then no one wants to work with me or at least say sorry. I just paid them the remaining balance due in hopes to get the behind me again and repair my credit. I wish that someone in this company could realize that an honest mistake can happen and could take the time to listen to their customers. I don’t know how $39.99 can turn into 148.36 and then a year later finding out on my credit report. In the end I paid them a totaling $196.35 for one month of service which should have been $39.99. I just paid them the remaining balance today.
Up graded from 12mbps to 20mbps. Wifi is so slow. Called tech support. Was told you only receive 50 percent of the 20mbps when connected wifi. Run a speed test on the century link site and I’m usually only receiving under 4mbps. According to their speed test. So I’m not even getting 50 percent. Have done all the things they asked me to do. Replaced with a refurbished modem that they sent me. Still have the same issues. Everything in my house buffers. I’m fed up with this already. Been a customer for years and still can’t get anything done.
Just plain awful
Worst internet service out there. It always freezes when on Internet, never loads media or video. Trying to get Netflix to work is impossible. Absolute worst network. Would definitely not recommend to anyone. Deserves lower than one star.

My area is served by Comcast (cable), CenturyLink (DSL up to 40 MB/s), and a couple WiMax services. Everyone knows that Comcast internet sucks in virtually every metric imaginable in every market they serve. Well, CenturyLink manages to be worse! Ponder that thought, friend, before you decide to buy their service. One advantage of DSL is that it is supposed to offer a unique, dedicated-bandwidth connection from the central office back to the customer, as opposed to shared bandwidth on cable. However, my CenturyLink connection frequently didn’t crack half rated speed and suffered almost-daily outages of varying brief durations. Changing modems and changing DNS servers and calling tech support all had no effect. Now let’s talk about value. Perhaps you are tempted to ditch another ISP because of CenturyLink’s promos. (That is what I had done.) Be aware that once the promo runs out, in 2015 your ONLY option for extending the promo is to bundle services with CenturyLink, AND if you don’t, regular pricing gets you about 1/6 the bandwidth for about twice what you were paying in the promo. In other words, this is not an option if you are value-minded. Either bundle, or go elsewhere. So…I am back on Comcast, back on a Comcast internet-only promo. Embrace the suck, but whatever you do, avoid Centurylink if you can help it.
very very bad experience
We had cox services for 12 yrs…started having small issues and my husband saw all the advertising on how inexpensive century link was so he called century link on pricing. He called in December they would set up an appointment and never showed up this happened 3 times where we would wait and nothing. Finally after almost a month we finally got services, they told my husband we would be only be paying about $150 a month…first bill almost $300 ok we just received another bill and it’s for another $300….REALLY!!!! And now supposedly we are in a contract for a year I totally regret switching to century link they are a rip off….my husband is on a fixed income and they totally took advantage of us….
Works relatively well with the computer and telephone.
Will not hook up to NETFLIX.
Can’t be sure it’s a problem with CenturyLink? Have wasted a day with NETFLIX support and Vizio support! The thing that makes me very suspicious of Centurylink is that the other streaming services seem to work fine. I will be glad when I can use another internet provider.
I have been with Century Link for 18 months now and every month has been a disappointment. My bills have constantly been way over my rate and they are now trying to tell me that I didn’t pay a bill that I have my receipt for FROM THEM to blame for my 270 dollar bill for one months worth of service ( I only have the 65.00$ a month internet) . I am switching as of today
Terrible service. been with them for 15 years. I’m gone end of this month.Never get even close to what you are paying for.
This company is in shambles. Everyone that I know has the worst internet connection. The field techs will admit that the service is garbage, yet prices stay high.

Non-existant customer service
If I could give this company negative ratings I would. They are comprehensively appalling. Their connection speeds are hugely variable, their customer service is beyond appalling and never, ever actually addresses issues. Just tries to get you to buy other/new products.
They even have their email addresses blocked by SPAMCOP for their poor reputation, spamming/poor reputation and open relays.
Their “customer service” is outsourced to the Philippines and they are rote answer robots with absolutely no knowledge or authority.
The company has no email contacts for ANYONE. So if you have an issue, you can’t even send them an email copy of what the issue is. Astoundingly ridiculous.

Speeds are terrible, long hold times, issues after issues
We live in the country and our service is terrible. We literally have dial up speeds and are told we can’t get better speed because we live over 1850ft off the road, but we don’t even live 700 ft from the road. Every time I have had to call in for help, I end up being on hold forever. The shortest call I’ve placed was 45 mins. That’s ridiculous. I’ve had billing issues, service issues, several missed appointments by the tech, wires that took 3+ weeks to be buried. If there was any other service provider option in the area I would take it, even if their prices were higher. I think Centurylink settles to offer crappy service just because they know that there isn’t any competition here.
Enjoyable wait time on the phone to really get to know yourself while waiting for customer service
I am not a fan of any internet service provider since they charge the public excessive amounts for something that costs them nothing to produce; however, CenturyLink is the devil.
For a full year we suffered through terrible internet connection (1.5 mbs) with the promise that upgrades were on the way and having to grit our teeth during their nauseating commercials claiming 40 mbs. Even with the measly internet, we rarely got 1 mbs so had to call a total of 6 different times for assistance. Each time the very friendly Indian representative attempted to “permanently” solve the problem, only for my family to be back in the same situation two weeks later.
After getting fed up enough, we decided to cancel our internet and phone services and called to do just that. We were told BOTH services were disconnected and we would no longer be billed. Lo and behold a few weeks later we receive ANOTHER bill. After a very long and frustrating call to customer service, it was explained to us that we only canceled our phone service the first time and the sneaky little hobgoblins had been continuing to charge us for internet.
CenturyLink took advantage of us as loyal customers for a full year and then managed to impart a final blow before we could actually be rid of them.
If you have ANY other option that isn’t a sucky deal, I recommend you take it. CenturyLink is the absolute worst.
It is my only option for internet. I can log on to it.
The most unethical company I have ever dealt with
1. I called about internet and phone service. I was quoted 61.90. Unlimited data. Unlimited long distance. Installation fee waived. Modem would be mailed and rented monthly until I purchase my own. No contract fees. Supervisor confirmed order. Names were Douglas and Steven
2. Installation and Arrival:
– I arrived to my new home. It was not setup. I was also never mailed the modem. They scheduled a technician to come out. It was an $85 charge. Installation is not free.
— minimum 5 lies – I spoke with customer service because I didn’t hear from technician on day scheduled. One rep told me that he was on the way. He never showed up. One told me he would be there between these hours. He never showed. Over and over.
— He finally arrived almost a week later. He was very nice.
— While waiting on the technician, I received an email about my bill. I sent email and spoke to customer service on several occasions. I do not think that I should pay for the time that I was not able to get service.
3. An actual bill never came. I can’t tell you the number of hours that I spoke with customer service, trying to get a bill. The customer rep told me the amount I owed. My service was connected in late December. It was mid-January. I owed over 400. I told them that is not anywhere near what I was quoted. I am not paying until I see a bill and I dispute the amount. I should not have been charged for the week that I was not connected. I should not have been charged an installation fee. Even with those two added in, the amount is not anywhere near 400. They said the monthly price is 91. If I sign up for auto-pay, they will give me a 10 discount. There is another 10 discount they could give. The price would be 71. This is not at all what I was told my fees would be.
4. I finally spoke with a manager, Jeff. I have 10-15 hours logged in phone calls, online chats and emails. He said over and over how he told me the monthly fee, the other customer rep did as well and his person that day. It was 3 people telling me the monthly fee so I know. He seemed to skate over that my issue was that I was quoted an entirely different thing. He said that he has never heard of the Douglas and Steven. He said that no one would have given me that amount. I misunderstood the original person, and the confirmation apparently. He said that he would do me a favor and give me a 20 discount to remove the auto pay fee. I would still be charged when I didn’t have service, for the installation, and more monthly than was told. He really let me know that it was a favor, and not holding his company to the quoted price. It was not a favor, I was still charged for many things incorrectly. I still have not seen a bill.
Basically, this company runs scams. They quote you and once you have service, they change the price. I did not misunderstand. It was a lie.
Also, the day that the technician came, a charge appeared on my phone bill to Canada. I never made the call. I called the person and she confirmed that she looked through her phone records and does not have any call from the States in that timeframe. Another scam.
I have one other choice for internet in this town. If someone else is in the same boat, and you use Century Link, I recommend the following:
– get every single conversation in writing. Do not call customer service on the phone.
– have options to switch ready to go because I doubt writing will help them honor their word. They are just an unethical company. They even added notes to my account that were false.

This provider is slow as hell!!! I can’t control myself sometimes, i be punching the routers. Century link sucks there value for money is boo boo there speed is boo boo x100. I don’t understand why I still have it

The speed is a joke. Part of why we bought and built a house were we did was based on what centurylink said thier Internet speeds were. Not even close and we cannot upgrade. Getting ahold of customer service is poor. If we had another option we would change carriers in a instant.

I seriously doubt there can be a worse internet provider around! Their service is the only one available in our area and there are no good words to accurately describe how much CenturyLink’s internet service sucks! If I had ANY other choice, I would drop this unprofessional company like a hot brick! The internet constantly goes down and without fail, every time I call in, I am told that they are “aware of the problems” and will attempt to resolve them, but after being with them for several YEARS, they have yet to solve the problems.
I am so upset that I actually have to pay [so much] a month for such a slow internet connection. In this day and age you’d think they could fix this relatively easy. I know they certainly make enough money to upgrade. I have no choice or I would drop them in a heartbeat!!
