High Speed Internet Providers

High Speed Wireless Internet Providers

If you are one of the 10% of American’s that still use dialup, then maybe you are thinking of having a chat with one of the high speed internet providers out there in order to upgrade.  It’s not surprising when you consider it takes around 7 seconds for a 50 kilobyte webpage to download using a 56k modem.  Talk about frustration!

If you are ready to ditch your dialup internet connection for high speed internet, then you need to know what to look for when you compare different high speed internet providers.

High speed internet providers offer a number of ways to access the high speed internet:

DSL high speed internet providers

You can choose a DSL services from around $17.99 per month.  DSL internet uses the same connection as your telephone service, or landline, via copper wires.  Download speeds vary, but on high speed internet provider Verizon’s Turbo DSL package, which costs $37.99 per month, you can expect download speeds up to 7.1mbps.

Cable high speed internet providers

With a cable connection, high speed internet service providers send data through cables the same way that is used for television signals.  Cable high speed internet provider Time Warner sells its cable service for $34.99 per month. Typically download speeds are quite high compared to competing technology and you can expect between 4 and 6 mbps if you live in an area covered by one of the major cable suppliers.  Speed is further enhanced with a PowerBoost fibre optic add-on by Comcast.

Satellite high speed internet providers

If you live outside of a DSL or cable area, then you can still access high speed internet via a satellite connection.  Most speeds vary but fall between the 768kpbs to 5.0mps, rather like a standard DSL connection.  High speed internet providers that offer a satellite service include HughesNet, Wildblue, Skyway and Starband.  Monthly plans are similarly priced between vendors at around the $60.00 to $70.00 per month mark, although the price of equipment and installation does vary so check the high speed internet provider offers carefully.

Of course not all American’s today live in a cable or DSL equipped area and so satellite, wireless broadband, mobile broadband or dialup may be the only option of getting access to the web.  Hopefully high speed wireless internet providers will develop the technology and services required so that every US citizen has a network choice in the near future.
