A broadband connection – or high speed internet connection – is the chosen method of getting on line for a growing number of Americans. Types of broadband connection
US broadband connections come in three main types; DSL, cable and satellite. The type of broadband connection you go for depends largely on where you want to access it; that is where your workstation is at home or in the office.
A DSL broadband connection
DSL connections offer a reliable and affordable broadband connection, although DSL broadband connection providers cannot link up every home in the remotest areas of the US. In order to get a broadband connection via a DSL line, the broadband connection needs to be situated within a few miles of a telephone exchange. This means that not every home or office in the US will be close enough to achieve a DSL broadband connection.
A cable broadband connection
One of the most preferred types of broadband connection is through a cable internet service provider, which offers a fast and reliable broadband connection at a competitive price. The main drawbacks to a cable broadband connection service are that speeds can slow down when a lot of people access the net at the busier times of the day; and also – similarly to DSL – a cable broadband connection is limited to certain areas.
A satellite broadband connection
If you live in a rural area then a satellite broadband connection may be your only option. It is comparatively expensive to install and run, and also a satellite broadband connection is limited in that it does not allow for VoIP conversations due to latency. The benefit is that it can be accessed from just about anywhere, and presents sometimes the only way of getting online from the back of beyond.
