Communications giant Verizon Wireless has announced that it is now in final preparations for the launch of its LTE network, and is set to spend four billion dollars on it over the next four years.
Some time ago communications giant Verizon Wireless announced the forthcoming launch of its LTE mobile broadband network, and the provider has recently confirmed that it is now in final preparations to launch its LTE network by the end of November. This will mark the first major network upgrade within North America, although other countries such as Sweden and Norway have been benefitting from LTE for some time.
The service is said to be able to reach download speeds of up to 12Mbps, and will demonstrate how the United States is on track to catch up with other countries that are already deploying or preparing to deploy LTE. The building of the network is to be handled by Alcatel-Lucent, which is said to be handling all areas of the network including the provision of services that can throttle and control data usage.
Officials from Verizon Wireless have said that the company will be spending around four billion dollars over the next four years on the network, which equates to one billion dollars a year. Senior officials from Verizon Wireless hope that the investment is something that will attract new customers and help the company to keep existing ones.
Tony Melone, chief technology officer at Verizon Wireless, said: “Constant network improvement is in our DNA. Network reliability is a top reason business and consumers choose and stay with us. With Alcatel-Lucent’s strong support, we continue to optimize our networks and will remain the most reliable in the nation for years to come.”
