BROADBAND EXPERT NEWS
4G LTE coming from Verizon

US broadband and communications giant Verizon is marketing its forthcoming LTE broadband service as 4G LTE according to reports, and is said to be offering at least two modems.

United States communications and broadband giant is set to launch its much anticipated LTE mobile broadband service in thirty eight cities around the country, and according to recent reports the company is marketing this forthcoming service as ‘4G LTE’. The company is set to launch the service this year in thirty eight cities and more than sixty airports, and over the next couple of years the service will benefit from continued expansion.

One report also claimed that Verizon will be offering at least two modems when the service is launched, and these are said to be the LG VL600 and the Pantech UML290 LTE USB modems. Details of the LG device were revealed in FCC documents earlier this year, with confirmation that the device would support the 700 MHz LTE network from Verizon.

Verizon Wireless CTO Tony Melone was speaking at the Open Mobile Summit conference in San Francisco earlier this month when he referred to the service as 4G LTE, with officials claiming that it was clear from his speech that this was how the company would now be marketing its LTE service.

Melone was asked whether the decision to use this wording was based on trying to make the service stand out from others that were simply using the term 4G to market their services. However, he said that the service would stand out from the others based on its merits and not how it was marketing. He stated: “Ultimately, the biggest differentiator is when the networks are built to perform. We’ve been talking about 4G for some time. We look at it as transformational. We can get into technicalities of what is 4G or not, but from a customer perspective, it is a generational leap.”
