Mobile broadband should be sold as a complement to fixed line services

A recent report has suggested that mobile broadband services in the USA and across Europe should be sold as a complement to fixed line services rather than as an alternative.

Since mobile broadband services hit the mainstream markets many providers have been trying to market their plans as suitable alternatives to fixed line broadband services. However, whilst mobile broadband has proven popular for those that want to get online whilst on the go, including business users, most people find that it is not as reliable and certainly not as fast as fixed line broadband services.

With this in mind a recent report has suggested that rather than trying to market and sell mobile broadband services as an alternative to fixed line broadband they should actually focus on marketing them as a way of complementing home broadband services. This comes after a poll of around six thousand consumers revealed that seventy percent saw mobile broadband as being more expensive, less reliable, and much slower than fixed line services.

By taking mobile broadband as a complementary service consumers can continue to enjoy the higher speeds of fixed line services whilst at home or in the office. However, they will also have the facility and means to continue getting online whilst they are on the move, albeit at a slower speed than their home connection.

However, one instance where mobile broadband could be marketed as a stand alone service rather than a complementary one could be for those that live in rural and hard to reach locations where fixed line services are not easily accessible.
