Ericsson backs FCC’s call for more spectrum

The chairman of the FCC, Julius Genachowski, recently highlighted the need for more spectrum for mobile broadband networks in the United States, and this call for more spectrum has been supported by Ericsson.

Whilst introducing the National Broadband Plan recently the chairman of the FCC, Julius Genachowski, highlighted the need for more spectrum to support mobile broadband networks in the United States. In an ambitious speech the chairman said that the core goal of the National Broadband Plan was to “have the fastest, most robust, and most extensive mobile broadband networks, and the most innovative mobile broadband marketplace in the world.”

The call for more spectrum was described as timely and crucial by Ericsson, which supported the chairman’s speech with regards to the need for more spectrum. According to reports Ericsson applauded the fact that the FCC recognised that more spectrum was necessary to improve mobile broadband network performance, improve access to broadband services, and help to improve and stimulate the economy.

However, in order to ensure the success of mobile broadband spectrum needs to be made available.

Officials from Ericsson said that mobile broadband would play a crucial part in the future of the country’s economy and in the creation of jobs. The company also praised the FCC’s Executive Director of the Omnibus Broadband Initiative, Blair Levin, as well as his team for the work put into the National Broadband Plan.
