According to a recent report broadband growth in the UK has slowed down to a crawl, with figures showing the level of slowdown following research that was part of the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project.
Research has recently been carried out showing that there has been a slowdown in broadband growth in the United States. The study claims that broadband growth has slowed to virtual crawl. The figures show that although sixty six percent of American adults now have a broadband connection the figure has not increased significantly from the figure for last year, which was sixty three percent.
The research was carried out as part of the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, and also showed that just over one fifth of American adults did not use the Internet. The report stated: “Many non-users think online content is not relevant to their lives and they are not confident they could use computers and navigate the web on their own.”
The report also said that most demographic groups saw little to no broadband growth over the past year. However it said: “The notable exception to this trend came among African-Americans, who experienced 22 percent year-over-year broadband adoption growth.”
The figures also showed the varying opinions of Americans when it came to the importance of the internet on different areas of peoples’ lives. For example, forty three percent of Americans thought that when it came to job opportunities lack of broadband was a major disadvantage, twenty three percent thought that it was a minor disadvantage, and twenty eight percent thought that it was not a disadvantage.
