It has been revealed that compared to other countries in the developed world the USA now has amongst the most expensive, as prices have failed to come down in line with other countries.
It has been claimed that the cost of broadband in the United States is very costly compared to other countries in the developed world because prices have failed to fall in line with other countries. According to reports the cost of triple play packages in the United States is amongst the highest in the developed world, leaving American’s paying far more for their broadband services than their European counterparts.
The figures were released by The Technology Policy Institute, and officials from the group said that whilst the cost of broadband in the United States had remained pretty static prices in other countries had fallen, leaving the United States lagging behind when it came to value for money.
In some OECD countries the cost of broadband is said to have fallen by forty percent, but in the United States the cost of home broadband is still said to be high. The cost of triple play packages in the United States in particular are said to be very costly compared to many other countries.
Some officials believe that one of the reasons why prices may not be as competitive in the United States is because there is no insistence that lines are shared in the same way as there is in many other countries, and this can reduce the competition in the market and result in prices becoming stagnant rather than falling.
