Many Americans don’t want to use the Internet

The results of recent studies have shown that not only is the increase in broadband take up in America only slightly higher than a year ago, but also that many people who are not online are without internet access by choice.

To many people across the United States the thought of being without any form of broadband or internet access is an alien concept, as so many people have become reliant on broadband services over the years. Consumers use the internet for all sorts of purposes, whether it is for entertainment and pleasure or whether it is for research, information, shopping, and more.

However, whilst some of us may not be able to imagine being without broadband a recent report has shown that take up of these services has only increased marginally in the last year in the United States. The data was released by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, and showed that sixty six percent of American households now have Internet access compared to sixty three percent a year ago.

The study also showed that there are twenty one percent of Americans that still do not use the internet at all despite the many benefits that internet access offers. Of those that do not use the internet a massive ninety percent said that the reason that they didn’t use the internet was because they didn’t want to, showing that many are not online through choice rather than being unable to get access.

Thirty four percent of those that do not use the Internet said that they either lived in a property where there was a connection available but they didn’t use it or that they used to go online but did not any longer.
