BROADBAND EXPERT NEWS
Internet speed test tool launched by FCC

It has been announced that in order to allow consumers to properly test the broadband speeds that they are getting the FCC has launched a speed test tool.

Many people that sign up to broadband services feel that the speed that they will achieve will be one of the top priorities for them, and in particular those that are heavier users of the Internet and those that play games online will require faster broadband speeds. However, whilst providers advertise impressive up to speeds in some cases the actual speeds that consumers receive can vary based on a number of factors.

It has been revealed that the Federal Communications Commission is now helping consumers to more accurately and effectively determine what sorts of speeds they are getting from their broadband service through the launch of an Internet speed test tool. By using the new broadband speed test tool from the FCC consumers will be able to compare the actual speed that they are getting when going online with the speeds that their providers are advertising.

Those that want to benefit from checking their broadband speeds against those advertised will be able to access the Internet speed test tool from the FCC website, which is located at www.broadband.gov and many are likely to be surprised at how low their speeds are compared to the speeds that their providers are advertising.

It is important to remember that a number of factors can affect the actual speed received by a user compared to the maximum advertised speed, and that it can also depend on the time of day that the user tends to go online. The chairman of the FCC stated: “The FCC’s new digital tools will arm users with real time information about their broadband connection and the agency with useful data about service across the country.”
