Internet not used by a third of United States

Despite the Internet becoming an integral part of many peoples lives a report has revealed that a massive one third of the United States does not use the Internet at all.

For many people in the United States having access to broadband internet is essential, and has become an integral part of both home and work life. Some businesses rely heavily on the Internet to conduct their operations, and even in homes across the United States the Internet has become something of another utility rather than a luxury, with households using broadband for everything from research and education to entertainment and shopping.

However, shockingly it has been revealed in a recent report that nearly one third of the population of the United States does not use the internet at all, at home or at work. Then figures were compiled and released by the US National Telecommunications and Information Administration. The study was based on a survey of fifty thousand people.

According to officials minorities, the elderly, and low income households were amongst those that did not use the Internet at all, and whereas some people may choose not to use the Internet in many cases consumers did not have access to the Internet and could not afford to pay for access.

Only a small percentage of those that were questioned said that the reason behind their lack of Internet usage was lack of access due to living in a rural area. The government is still working on rolling out broadband access, which may see the number of people that do not use the Internet fall over time. In comparison the report showed that in the UK ninety percent of the population had Internet connections, with eighty eight percent having broadband.
