Following the FCC’s approval of new regulations relating to net neutrality in the United States a survey has been conducted into what consumers think about the planned regulation.
It was announced recently that regulators from the Federal Communication Commission in the United States had voted in favour of new regulations relating to net neutrality, which refers to the way in which Internet Service Providers treat different types of internet traffic, with a view to making this treatment fairer.
Since then a survey has been carried out by the polling firm Rasmussen Reports, and the results have shown that many Americans do not actually want the FCC to get involved with the regulation of the internet. One thousand ‘likely US voters’ were polled as part of the survey, and most said that they wanted regulators to keep their hands off the internet.
Out of the people that were polled about the decision fifty four percent said that they did not want the FCC getting involved in the regulation of the Internet. Just twenty one percent of those polled were in favour of the internet being regulated by the FCC, and twenty five percent of those that took part in the survey said that they were not sure.
A number of questions were asked as part of the survey, and this included asking participants whether the FCC should regulate the Internet in the same way as it regulated television and radio. They were also asked whether they thought consumers would be better protected as a result of FCC regulation of the Internet.
Do you think that the FCC should be given authority to regulate the Internet? Let us know with your comments
