Official claims United States leading the way with 4G broadband

At the launch of the CTIA Wireless event Ralph dela Vega from AT&T said that the United States was leading the way with mobile and 4G broadband but that new technologies will only go so far unless app developers share the burden with mobile companies.

The launch of the recent CTIA Wireless event in the United States kicked off with Ralph de le Vega from AT&T praising the United States and claiming that the country was leading the way in terms of mobile broadband and Fourth Generation technology. He praised the achievements of industry bodies in the United States when it came to this technology, highlighting a number of reports that showed evidence of this.

However, Vega also stated that further action needs to be taken to ensure that the deployment of such technologies runs smoothly and does not become restricted. He said that one of the things that would aid the smooth implementation of technology such as 4G broadband was app developers sharing the burden with mobile companies by ensuring that apps were optimized and designed to fit in with the mobile network.

He added that the demand for mobile broadband services was already huge and was set to continue to soar, which could result in mobile companies being unable to cope with that demand even thought that had managed to do so to date. He said: “In almost every way of looking at it the U.S. is leading the way, but there is not a guarantee it will stay that way.”

Vega stated that whilst 4G technology would undoubtedly result in improvements it would only be part of the solution when it came to the gap between demand and capacity. He said that an important factor in reducing this gap was to ensure that apps were developed with the limits of the networks in mind.
