Android Ice Cream Sandwich launch delayed out of respect for Steve Jobs

Google and Samsung were going to announce a new smartphone running the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system at the CTIA Enterprise and Applications show.  The conference runs from October 11th through the 13th with pre-conference seminars on the 10th.

Google Announces Android Ice Cream Sandwich 300x219 Android Ice Cream Sandwich launch delayed out of respect for Steve JobsThe Samsung Mobile Unwrapped show was to take place on the first day of the CTIA show just four days from now.  Everyone has been waiting for this delicious Ice Cream Sandwich reveal.

With the passing of Steve Jobs this week, both Google and Samsung have decided to delay their announcement at a later date.  I can see why Google would want to pay respects to Mr. Jobs, being one of the premier Silicon Valley companies.

In a joint announcement, Google and Samsung said in part “We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”  I think that was a very nice gesture of respect by both companies.

Even Bill Gates offered kind words on Steve’s passing.  We know that on a company-to-company basis, Microsoft and Apple were at each other’s throat more often than not.

The other side of me might think that Google and Samsung wanted some distance between Apple’s iOS 5, Steve Job’s death and the reveal of the Ice Cream Sandwich.

What reason do you think is the correct one?
