To the Church of Kopimism piracy is a sacrament
I can hardly believe there is any country in the world that could allow this to happen. Yes, rules for becoming a religion are very liberal or loose. Just about anything can be considered a religion, from worshiping cats and dogs to even agnosticism and atheism being recognized as religions.
There are even recognized religions that use illegal drugs as sacraments of the day. Is anything sacred anymore? It all depends whose definition you use.
The Church of Kopimism (and I think that name is a play on the word “copy” and turning it into an “-ism”, but that is merely conjecture-ism on my part) has been around for a year or so in Sweden. For all of that time they were trying to become officially recognized as a religion.
They just received their wish come true. The Swedish government has officially welcomed them into the folds of the cloth so to speak.
The Church of Kopimism states that “information is holy.” The Church of Kopimism also states that “copying is a sacrament.”
Kopimism believes that the value of information increases every time it is copied. This is their central point of belief and it makes the act of copying a sacrament.
The Church of Kopimism does not require a formal membership. They say “You just have to feel a calling to worship what is the holiest of the holiest, information and copy. To do this, we organize kopyactings – religious services – where the kopimists share information with each other through copying and remix.”
“Copy and seed.” That is their motto.
I think this is just ridiculous! Piracy as a religion? No Way!
What do you think of Kopimism as a religion? Do you believe copying (piracy) is a sacrament?
Do you believe the United States will follow Sweden’s lead and accept The Church of Kopimism as a religion?

“agnosticism and atheism being recognized as religions”
Are you an imbecile?
You can’t seriously be upset about this.
The ‘protected’ status of modern religions is a mockery of logic itself.
Why are you upset that someone else’s unprovable beliefs are now equal in the eyes of the law as your own unprovable beliefs?
In the computer world this tracks back to Richard Stallman’s Free Software Foundations motto “Information wants to be free”. This goes back to the 1970s.
Let that be the whole of the Law
You believe that Kopimism as a religion is ridiculous, yet believing in a spiritual being that none have ever seen is perfectly normal. More so believing that a man born of a “virgin” rising to the head of a religion and others following his teachings to their death bed seems a little irrational to me. I say let it be a religion if Jesus is normal belief then let Kopimism be too. I for one think both are a little outlandish but believe what you will.
You do realize this is a joke right? Kinda like the church of the spaghetti monster. More social/political statement than actual church.
And why not? Blind faith in a moral dictator is what is ridiculous here.. Information is truly powerful
This is less a joke than believing in an invisible man in the sky whose son was born from a virgin and became a zombie with superpowers, and if you don’t follow his will you’ll be sent to an eternity of despair and torments, but he LOVES you!
I think what’s being said here is agnosticism and atheism shouldn’t be recognized as religions as they don’t contain a belief system or set of doctrine that people must follow. I get people trying to protect their way of life, and ‘striking out at the system’ but to call it a religion? Hats (strainers) off to anyone challenging the definition of beliefs by the state! Viva humanity!

Well, humans reproduce by “sharing” and “copying” their DNA, so that religion makes more sense than most other religions. After all, without copying of genetic information there should have been no life on planet Earth at all.
