Aircado and LightSquared sign deal to provide high-speed broadband services
Aircado has signed a deal with LightSquared to receive wholesale broadband access which will allow Aircado to provide high-speed broadband services to its customer base. Aircado’s claim to fame is in providing high speed broadband services to areas that are not served by the larger broadband providers, like AT&T for instance.
The self-described “micropolitan” provider has set out to provide services to a niche market that is ignored by the large carriers. A lot of these areas are rural, however Aircado also goes into cities to bring broadband to pockets inside the city that do not get service from the big three.
LightSquared gets satellite service and brings the access through its nationwide network. LightSquared is trying to build its own nationwide 4G LTE network.
The CEO of Aircado, Loren Wengerd said in a statement “LightSquared’s network and attractive wholesale-only economics allow us to advance the delivery of our services in the markets we plan to serve at a dramatically quicker pace, while offering competitively priced products to our growing base of customers.”
Aircado must have a lot of faith that LightSquared will be able to get approval from the FCC to continue building it’s 4g LTE network. Broadband Expert has written about LightSquared’s frequency spectrum assignment from the FCC that is right next to the band our GPS services use.
FCC has delayed LightSquared’s 4G LTE implementation until LightSquared works out all the issues with the GPS devices being degraded and even being made useless by their 4G LTE network.
We will have to wait and see how Aircado’s agreement works out.
