Fort Lauderdale beach gets new Verizon digital cell site
If you get tired of watching the views on the beach this summer, let me tell you that you will definitely be able to pull out your Verizon smartphone and watch a streaming movie, download a new version of Angry Birds or even check your work email.
Verizon has just activated a “new advanced digital” cellphone site to better cover the beach area. It will also provide better signal strength inside the various hotels and restaurants and other tourist businesses.
The enhanced digital wireless site strengthens the area’s 3G (EV-DO Rev. A) broadband network. Verizon’s 4G LTE network was turned up in the beach area earlier in the year and is more than adequate for the future use of 4G devices.
The 3G network in the beach area was congested and needed additional bandwidth, which was why the new 3G site was installed. The rapid proliferation of wireless devices in the Fort Lauderdale beach area necessitated the expansion.
The new site was part of Verizon’s continuing improvements to bring its customers the most advanced and reliable network possible.
In their press release Verizon says “Since the company formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has spent more than $2.2 billion in Florida to enhance its network across the state.”
Maybe a lot of people are sending pictures and HD video of the beach at Fort Lauderdale to their co-workers that are stuck in the office. That could definitely cause enough congestion to warrant an additional cell site to provide additional bandwidth.
