NIST soliciting advice on cloud computing standards
It is not often that you can get in on the ground floor of a company or a project. Now is your chance to help set the standards for the rest of the nation.
NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is asking for help in setting up standards for cloud computing. If you company is involved in their own cloud-based computing products, now would be the time to let NIST know how you would like cloud computing to evolve.
First review the current Cloud Computing Synopsis and Recommendations and then see what recommendations and changes you would like to see.
NIST’s synopsis includes a definition of cloud computing along with private, public and hybrid clouds. There are also may services offered by clouds and all of them have their own requirements to be included in the standards.
Most people have heard of software as a service, but there are other environments covered by the cloud such as platform as a service and infrastructure as a service.
Lee Badger of NIST sums up some of the things they are looking for when he said “Cloud computing is not a single kind of system. Since cloud computing spans a spectrum of underlying technologies and configuration possibilities, each organization’s requirements call for different cloud technologies and configurations.”
So, if your company has developed cloud products or services, you may want to submit your opinions to NIST.
You can send your comments via email to 800-146comments@nist.gov and see if you can get your technology and products supported.
