If you are stuck just restart that iPhone

A friend of mine, who happens to be a real big Android fan from Cup Cake, gave me a call.  No, I won’t mention where he works or what he does, but you can probably figure that out for yourself.

iPhone 4S reset If you are stuck just restart that iPhoneAs you may have guessed by now, he could not resist the sexy (as he put it) iPhone 4S, so he bought one when they were first released.  He has been totally in love with it until today.

“My iPhone is frozen! Help!”  I just had to rub it in: “So you are pulling the opposite of what The Woz did?  I hope no one took pictures of you in front of Apple or at the Apple store.”

A minute later, he called back: “Please?”  Oh, OK.

He thought Apple products never stopped working or hung like the first Windows computers used to do.  Well, I have to break the news to everybody, but all computers and smartphones will eventually hang is you give them enough time.  (Having a hardware heartbeat detector that cold-boots the device is cheating.)

So the time came for him to accept reality and restart his iPhone.  Needless to say, he was on the road and pulled over when it stopped working.

He didn’t save his manuals or even read them, so I was his field reference guide.  I will tell you what I told him.

You can easily restart your iPhone in a couple of easy steps.

Simultaneous hold down the round Home button at the bottom front of the phone and the Sleep/Wake button located at the very top right-hand corner of the iPhone.  Keep holding them down and don’t let go until I tell you.

iPhone reboot logo If you are stuck just restart that iPhoneYou will see the iPhone screen go totally dark (if you had anything showing to begin with).  Keep holding them down long enough and you will see a white Apple logo appear on the phone.

LET GO NOW!!!!!  Sorry to startle you – LOL!

The iPhone will finish rebooting and you should have all or your data there provided the entire phone didn’t corrupt.  If you do not get the white Apple logo, let go when your fingers get tired.

You will now need to go to the bar.  No, not that bar!  Go to your favorite Apple store’s Genius Bar.  You may want to make an appointment first.

This should work for all versions of the iPhone.  Consider this button combination the Ctrl-Alt-Delete for the iPhone.
