Get the Best Quality YouTube Feeds

With streamed video a popular use for high speed Internet connections, one of the most popular online destinations is of course YouTube, with its unrivaled variety of videos covering pretty much any subject you can think of.

However, by default YouTube will display only the lowest-quality version of the selected video, in 360p resolution. In order to get a higher resolution you need to make some changes, either to the video itself or to the available settings in your YouTube profile. Yet this path isn’t perfect, and you might opt to enjoy the content in another way entirely.

You wouldn’t think that it could be all that difficult to get the best quality YouTube feeds, would you?

Regular users of YouTube will know that when you click a link to a video on the side, in most cases the clip will start playing by default. In nearly all cases the clip will be in the low 360p resolution (exceptions being on sponsored channels, for instance) and have a small menu control that you can use to increase the quality of the image.

This is found on the right-hand side of the video clip’s progress meter, and by clicking this button you can increase the resolution to any available options displayed in the menu. As you can imagine, this is a particularly useful option for anyone planning to watch a clip in full screen mode.

Additionally, from the same menu you can also access Settings…, and this option will take you to the Playback Setup screen where you can alter how videos are displayed and played. For instance, under Video Playback Quality ensure that you have Always choose the best option for me, based on my player size selected, as well as a check next to Always play HD when switching to full screen (when available) – this second option will save time, and make full use of your high speed Internet connection!

Downloading YouTube Videos

If you decide that the video you’re watching is something you want to view again at a later date, there is also an option to download in any of the available resolutions. There are various services available that aid you in doing this, depending on your web browser, but a useful “catch-all” solution is KeepVid.com a useful site that will quickly check all resolutions that the video is available in and then link to them.

The process is simple – head to the YouTube video you want to keep, copy the URL from the address bar and then open a new tab and visit KeepVid.com, where you just need to paste the URL into the appropriate field and click Download.

Seconds later the video will be available to download in FLV and MP4 formats for you to save and enjoy at your leisure!
