Our Editorial Team
Founded in 2009, Broadband Expert exists to help consumers to find the right high speed Internet provider. The blog offers news, opinions and guides. We report on the most interesting goings on in the wireless and Internet provider world, new cell phones and tablets releases as well as software for your devices. Everything from beginners guides to really techie data for your inner geek, we have it.
So, who’s behind the team?
Fred Hoot – Editor in Chief
Fred has been involved in the telecommunications business for over 30 years. The first experience he remembers is being part of the team that brought up the first direct private data line between the United States and Singapore with a blindingly fast 9600 Bps AVD (Alternate Voice/Data) circuit.
Fred still stays involved with the telecommunications developments and has recently worked with IPTV and MPEG4 implementations for government installations that he can’t talk about or else …
When Fred is not writing, he stays fit by being dragged by his two labs in pursuit of cats and squirrels. Fred is also an accomplished musician (trumpet) and plays in a Funk band. The founder of Worship Jam Ministries, Fred also ministers to musicians.

Jonathan Spike – Editor
Jonathan Spike is a self-proclaimed character who joined the computing field in Massachusetts by repairing PDP 5 computers and came out to the Silicon Valley when he found it allowed him just about unlimited access to Yosemite National Park. He couldn’t find Yogi, though.
He did find an amazing array of toys including his own PDP-8e computer and a car telephone. Since then, he has owned just about every high-tech toy he could get his hands on.
Jonathan is a traveler who calls Muir Woods home and carries a satellite phone with him for emergencies when camping in various places. He sees nothing wrong with filing a blog post surrounded by Mother Nature when he has a signal. When necessary, he will drive into town and find free hot spot at an eatery or coffee shop.
He has an undisclosed rooted smartphone loaded with Angry Birds, Centipede, Asteroids and Pac-Man along with Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn (1984 version), Dirty Harry and X-Men on the 32 GB memory card. Yes, Jonathan encoded the movies himself into MPEG4 format for his own viewing pleasure.
Editor’s note: Johnny is still scared of sharing a picture online. We’re still trying though …

Christian Cawley – Staff Writer
Writing online since 2004, Christian operates from a cramped box room in the North of England. Specialising in tutorials and help guides, he is particularly interested in mobile devices, although he also spends more time than is healthy reading and writing about British sci-fi.
When he isn’t contributing guides on “how to turn it off and back on again” for DeviceMAG and other sites, Christian is busy working on his first non-fiction book.
Christian has previously worked as desktop support, technical support and third line software support engineer for both private and public sector organisations.

Craig Settles – Staff Writer
